jawahirprince: ([happy] (absolutely) listening)
Two days and seven hours.

It felt like Naseer had been counting minutes since his path crossed with Lily's, two days and seven hours ago - roughly, given the position of the stars and the angle of the shadows of the thinning trees around them. It was like time had been actively slowing, allowing him ample opportunity to keep count of every moment they spent together. And yet, they had been the fastest two days and seven hours of his life.

Getting to know Lily was not as easy as he was used to. Naseer considered himself a bit of a charmer, a smooth talker, knowing how to make people comfortable and get conversation going. But there must have been something in Lily's life, her past, holding her back from opening up freely to strangers. Naseer had seen it in others, and he had been as frustrated back then as he was now, with the two of them sitting around the fire, having set up camp for the evening. He had no idea how to coax anything but basic information out of her - where she was from, how old she was, favorite animal, do you eat meat, boy it sure is cold huh - as any questions considered more intimate were politely brushed past. Her reasons for finding Naemiri was also a point of interest for him, but one he hadn't gotten more than a breathless answer to during their first meeting. It was so unusual to Naseer, who was anything but private, actively sharing and spilling a million answers to any questions Lily might have.

He found himself intensely curious about her, almost because of her gentle avoidance. Her magic was especially intriguing - though he was still a little frightened at the prospect of her showing him more. It was hard to undo decades of being told just how dangerous magic could be. But it wasn't her he was afraid of. Just her potential.

"I miss wine," he sighed wistfully into the silence, only interrupted by the warm crackle of their fire. Impatiently, he stirred the stew they were cooking - rabbit, mushrooms and potatoes, with whatever aromatic herbs they could find along the way. "Food is just not the same without it."
